the grand guides: mexico city | dine + drink
my favorite places to eat, drink, and caffeinate in cdmx
mexico city is a veritable treasure trove of places to eat and imbibe.
nearly anyone who’s spent time in cdmx raves about what a great “food city” it is, and this is true—mexico city is, for all intents and purposes, a food lover’s paradise—but it’s also a great place to drink coffee, gorge on pastries, and drink natural wine + locally made mezcal. outside of new york, there are very few cities that warrant a visit on their food alone, but cdmx is one of them. in fact, it might even top new york on that front. because my god, the food in mexico city is downright incredible. from street corner tacos to top notch tasting menus, mercado quesadillas to handmade italian pastas, light as a feather croissants to perfectly baked sourdough, cdmx has it all—and does it really, really well.
i’ve now visited the city a total of 4 times; my most recent visit was the full month i spent there in february 2023 (a dream of a time; you can read more about that here, here, and here). getting to spend multiple weeks in a place means having the chance to both frequent your favorites and find new ones, and i’m thrilled to say my mexico month gave me both. and now, i’m giving them to you! behold, a list of nearly 100 of my CDMX favorites, from coffee to bars to all day cafes and restaurants, shops, yoga studios, markets and more.
